Yamaha 2017 Yamaha VF150 XA VMAX SHO Outboard Motor

The 2017 Yamaha VF150 XA is a new 150 HP V MAX SHO outboard built around a 2.8-liter in-line four, rated 150 HP at 5,500 RPM. It is the XA trim of the VF150 line, meaning electric start with power trim and tilt as standard. What sets this engine apart Variable camshaft timing and a long-track induction system are tuned to sharpen throttle response through the low and mid RPM range rather than only at the top end, which is where many in-line four owners feel the biggest gain over an older carbureted two-stroke. Double overhead cams, 16 valves and a four-into-one exhaust with blow-by gas reburning keep the package efficient. Fit and rigging details Dry weight is 489 lbs and the shaft measures 20 inches, so plan the transom height around that figure. Compression ratio is 10.3:1 and the alternator puts out 50 amps. Cooling is thermostatic, gear shift is forward-neutral-reverse, and tilt travels to 70 degrees while trim swings from -4 to +16 degrees. Will it run on regular ethanol-blend gas? Up to a 10 percent ethanol blend is within spec for this engine. What is its emissions rating? It carries a C.A.R.B. three-star rating. What is the warranty? Yamaha backs the engine for three years under pleasure use, three years under government use, and one year under commercial use. Recommended lubrication is wet-sump with Yamalube 4-M oil. For a shaft length and alternator spec that lines up with a bass or flats hull already rigged for mechanical controls, this in-line four is a straightforward step in.
