About this product
The Maxstar 161 STH adds TIG to the same compact stick inverter platform, though this version does not include an actual TIG torch, only the air-cooled torch connector. It runs on 120 or 240-volt power and is DC only, so it will not TIG weld aluminum. Amperage ranges Stick output runs 20-90A on 120V up to 20-160A on 240V, and TIG output runs 5-130A on 120V up to 5-160A on 240V. It covers roughly 3/16 in of mild steel or stainless on 5/32 in rod, weighing 13 lbs total, light enough to move between benches without a cart. What you will still need Because the torch itself is not included, a shop already stocked with an air-cooled TIG torch can plug straight in; everyone else needs to add one separately before TIG work can start. As shipped, the kit pairs the power source with a 6.5 ft cord for each voltage, a stick electrode holder and clamp fitted with Dinse connectors, the torch connector, and a shoulder strap. Does it come with a TIG torch? No, only the connector; the torch is a separate purchase. Can it TIG weld aluminum? No, the STH is DC only. What would need to be added to run TIG? Just an air-cooled torch that matches the included connector; everything else is ready to go.
